What’s your license number, and can I verify it? A legitimate contractor will give this without hesitation.

What warranty do you offer, and does it cover labor as well as materials? Material-only warranties are common but less valuable — you want to know what happens if the repair itself fails.

Will you show me the problem area and the completed repair? Photos or a walkthrough of the actual failure point, before and after, is a strong trust signal.

What happens if you find additional damage once you start? A clear answer here (how it’s communicated, how pricing changes) tells you a lot about how they’ll handle surprises.

Questions That Are Easy to Ask But Often Skipped

Beyond the core questions about diagnosis, license, and warranty, it’s worth asking who will actually be doing the physical work (the contractor’s own crew, or subcontracted labor) and how disputes are handled if you’re not satisfied with the completed repair. These aren’t uncomfortable questions to ask a legitimate contractor — they’re the kind of due diligence any reasonable business expects from a customer making a real investment.
