Solar panel systems are typically anchored to a flat or low-slope roof through mounting brackets that penetrate the membrane, sometimes numbering in the dozens across a single installation. Each mounting point needs to be properly flashed and sealed, and the quality of that original installation work varies significantly between solar installers — not all of whom are licensed roofers.

A common issue: the solar installer’s flashing or sealant around the mounting points was adequate at installation but wasn’t designed with the same longevity as the surrounding roof membrane, or the mounting brackets weren’t installed with proper flashing at all, relying on sealant alone (which fails faster than a mechanical flashing detail).

Repairing solar-related leaks sometimes requires coordination — working around the panels rather than removing them, or in some cases needing the solar installer to temporarily detach a section. We’ll assess what’s accessible and what requires coordination with your solar provider before starting.

Coordinating Repairs Around Existing Solar Installations

When a leak is traced to a solar mounting point, the repair sometimes requires temporarily accessing the area around or under specific panels. Depending on the mounting system, this might mean working carefully around fixed panels, or in some cases needing the original solar installer (or a qualified electrician) to safely detach and reattach a panel or section.
