The waterproof layer beneath the visible roofing material — often the real story behind a persistent leak.
Underlayment is the secondary water barrier beneath shingles, tile, or other roofing material. When it fails or wasn’t properly installed, leaks can occur even when the visible roofing material looks intact. Diagnosing an underlayment issue requires pulling back the surface material to inspect what’s underneath — a similar principle to how we approach hidden moisture on flat roofs.
